The stone ranges from light green to medium blue, often webbed with golden brown matrix, and the mine is famous for an apple-green variety colored by zinc. It's also known for something stranger: turquoise \"fossil\" clams, where ancient shells in the lakebed dissolved away and turquoise filled the empty shapes they left behind. The mine produces a fair amount of material, but high-grade stone from it is still uncommon.
