Garnet and Black Onyx Necklace - "Vlad" // READY TO SHIP
-=VLAD GARNET & BLACK ONYX NECKLACE=-
This black onyx necklace with garnet is named for Vlad Dracula. The coffin-shaped black onyx set on the upturned crescent moon reminds me vaguely of a bat.
Vlad Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler, is the only non-fiction person in my vampire jewelry collection. He was a real ruler in what is now Romania back in the 15th century, and is now legendary in his cruelty. He's probably best known now because he's popularly linked to the Transylvanian vampire lore that inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula, and that's why I had to include him here.
Stones: One 11mm coffin-shaped black onyx and one 6mm round rosecut Mozambique garnet.
Size: The pendant is about 1-3/8" inches long and hangs from an 18" sterling silver rolo chain.
Material: Sterling silver (.925) with fine silver (.999) accents.
-=About Garnet & Black Onyx=-
Garnets are one of the oldest known gemstones. It was believed that garnets could shield the wearer from harm and warriors would wear garnets into battle as protective talismans. Garnets were also traditionally associated with love, blood, and one's life force - it is a perfect stone for vampires!
Black onyx has been used as a talisman of protection and focus by many cultures for centuries. Onyx is named for the Greek word onux for "fingernail" or "claw" and is the birthstone of Leos. Some believe onyx can absorb negative energy to protect the wearer from ill intentions. According to folklore, Cleopatra would wear black onyx jewelry to alert her to nearby danger. It is also believed that onyx holds memories, and can assist the wearer by providing focus and stamina to navigate difficult times or decisions.

To keep your jewelry looking like new, take that extra second to remove it before cleaning, bathing, swimming, or any activity that would cause excess wear and tear. Avoid exposing your jewelry to perfumes, lotions, soaps and other liquids, as well as extreme heat.
If your jewelry becomes dirty, clean with a soft cloth or soft tooth brush and a mild soap if necessary (I use Dawn), or polish with a silver polishing cloth. Please note that polishing cloths are infused with an abrasive and will remove intentional patina along with the unwanted tarnish, so take care not to accidentally polish off the patina!
Finally, as a best practice, store your jewelry in a cool, dry place with your complimentary anti-tarnish tab.
